What it is
NowCheckin helps people find restaurants, cafés, spas, gyms and entertainment venues near them, read reviews from other customers, and check in at the venue to collect offers. Venue owners join as partners to list their place and reach those customers. Behind the counter, the platform connects to the venue's POS machine.
What I built
I am the lead engineer for development and operations. I designed and wrote every part:
- Website at nowcheckin.io. Built in Next.js and server-rendered for speed and search, in Vietnamese and English.
- Backend. NestJS, with Redis and BullMQ for queues, Elasticsearch for search, cron for scheduled jobs and WebSocket for real-time updates.
- POS bridge. A uWebSocket service that links the platform to physical POS machines.
- CMS at cms.nowcheckin.io. A React and Vite dashboard that operators use to run the platform.
- Mobile app. One React Native codebase for both phone platforms.
- Integrations. iPOS, Zalo OA, Google Maps and other partner services.
What I took from it
Owning every layer, from the first commit to keeping it running, meant each part had to stay simple to operate. It is the project that taught me the most about how the pieces of a product depend on each other.
